One of the "Little Rock Nine" to Visit Lincoln Street
- March 15, 2010
Terrence Roberts, one of the nine African-American students who in 1957 desegregated Little Rock High School, will speak to our students at the Lincoln Street Campus on April 6, at 1 pm.
Roberts, who later earned his Ph.D., made history as the world watched as the “Little Rock Nine” braved constant intimidation and threats from those who opposed integration of the formerly all-white high school.
While the world today is a changed place, too many children, mostly low-income minorities, struggle against discrimination. Today, Dr. Roberts is a management consultant and he maintains a private psychology practice. He also serves as a desegregation consultant to the Little Rock School District, and in 2009 wrote a memoir entitled, Lessons from Little Rock. He was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 1999, the nation’s highest civilian award, by then President Bill Clinton.
Summit Christian Academy and Rowland Hall are co-sponsoring Dr. Roberts' visit and activities in Salt Lake during the week of April 5 – 9.
